Impact

Suicide remains a significant issue in New Zealand, with a devastating impact on families, workplaces, and our communities. In the 2023/2024 year, preliminary data indicates that around 600 New Zealanders lost their lives to suicide, a reminder of the challenges many face in silence.

Among working-age individuals, the construction and trade industries consistently report some of the highest rates of suicide. These statistics underline the importance of addressing mental wellbeing in workplaces across the country.

By creating environments where employees feel supported and empowered to seek help, we can make a tangible difference in saving lives.

Training

We have two training options available in our suicide prevention programme:

Toolbox talks are aimed to be Interactive, onsite, real-life conversations are essential for reaching those who need to hear it most—the team members on the tools. Increased awareness, education on the impact of suicide, guidance around correct escalation paths are covered to assist in fostering, improving and maintaining a supportive culture.

Instructor lead training provides a deeper understanding of suicide prevention to equip team members with the tools to gain in-depth insights into the causes and learn effective ways to identify and connect individuals in distress to appropriate professional resources. Learners will cover strategies for maintaining consistent suicide prevention practices and communication, as well as understanding how to use this knowledge to run regular, impactful toolbox talks, ensuring mental health awareness remains a priority.
