Drones offer amazing possibilities, whether you’re inspecting assets, capturing aerial images, or supporting field operations. But with those opportunities comes responsibility. Knowing how to fly safely and within the law isn’t optional, it’s essential.

Why training is crucial now
Recent events in NZ show just how serious drone safety has become:
A near-miss between a drone and an Air New Zealand jet near Auckland Airport prompted urgent calls for tighter regulations to avoid potential mid-air collisions.

UAV drones flying close to airport airspace have already caused flight delays, including a temporary halt to arrivals when multiple drones were sighted near Auckland Airport

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission emphasised the need for operators to fully understand the rules. Many people unintentionally break them simply because they aren’t aware.
These incidents show that even innocent drone use can have serious consequences: endangering aircraft, delaying flights, and risking hefty fines.
With the rapid increase in drone use, the risks, hazards and incidents surrounding them have also grown. To address these challenges, Koal partnered with industry leaders to create our comprehensive Drone Awareness course.
This training not only equips operators with the knowledge to fly safely and meet legal requirements, but also helps businesses make informed decisions about whether drone technology is the right fit for their operations.
The onus is on drone operators to avoid aircraft. People buying and flying a drone should first know how to operate it safely, and where they can’t fly.
